The History of Houston
Before you move to Houston, you should learn a few things about the city’s rich history. The city of Houston was founded in August of 1836 by Augustus and John Allen and was named after famous Texan general Sam Houston. General Houston would soon be elected President of the Republic of Texas and the city would become his temporary capital in 1840.
Today, Houston is one of the more diverse cities in the American South, with a vibrant international community. The greater Houston area is home to approximately 1.1 million residents that were born outside of the United States. While a majority of these immigrants come from Central and South America, nearly 20% of immigrants travel to Houston from Asia.
