Boulder is surrounded by thousands of acres of recreational open space, conservation easements and nature preserves – almost 60% of land, totaling over 61,000 acres, is open to the public. This means that your love of rock climbing, hiking, biking and all things outdoorsy will all be fulfilled. Keep in mind however, that some areas will be seasonally closed due to the needs of the wildlife population. Luckily, you have tons of other fun events to take part in throughout the year.
If you’re a runner, jogger, walker or wheelchair racer, join over 50,000 others at the Bolder Boulder as you race 10km on Memorial Day, an event that has occurred every year since 1979. If you’re a modern philosopher, attend the annual “Conference on World Affairs” – a one-week conference featuring dozens of discussion panels regarding a variety of contemporary issues. If you’re looking for a little excitement, join hundreds of other Polar Bear Plunge participants as you jump into the freezing Boulder Reservoir on New Year’s Day. However, if you’re looking for a mainstream attraction, treat yourself to one of the most popular sections of Boulder at the Pearl Street Mall. Home to unique shops and restaurants, the four-block pedestrian mall is a social hotspot. During the summer and on the weekends, expect to discover many street shows and acts throughout the mall. Also, be sure to explore the Farmer’s Market, open every Saturday morning and Wednesday evening, April through October at 13th street, next to Central Park, for all your local and fresh produce.
Rated as the number one spot of America’s Top 25 Towns to Live Well by Forbes and number one on the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index by USA Today, there’s never been a better time to move to Boulder.
