Choosing the right moving company can be difficult. It can even be more confusing than it needs to be with all of the different kinds of movers available and the various services they provide. Our quick guide will help you differentiate between the different types of movers and how they can best service your needs.
Before jumping into which movers do what, determining which type of move you’re about to undertake needs to be addressed first.
1. Local Move
Local moves are characterized by having a distance of less than 75 miles while remaining within state lines.
2. Intrastate Move
Intrastate moves remain within the same state.
3. Interstate Move
Relocating to a new state, no matter how many miles you travel to get there qualifies as an interstate move.
4. International Move
International Moves involve crossing international borders. These moves require special coordination by the moving company.
Now that you have established which type move, you need to choose the service that fits you best:
1. Full Service
You won’t even need to lift a finger. Movers will pack, load, deliver, unload and unpack your belongings.
With self-service, you pack your own stuff and then the movers load, deliver and unload your belongings at your new home, then you take it from there.
For special items such as pianos, antiques, wine collections, safes and pool tables, specialized moving may be right for you. Not every full service mover is capable of handling these items so be sure to ask!
Some companies specialize in moving businesses and offices. If you’re staying put but your office isn’t, contact professionals who are experienced commercial movers.
