Welcome to Atlanta
If you’re moving to the area, get ready to have lots of company. With a population of 5.5 million in the Atlanta metro area, Atlanta is a major world city and with a strong diverse economy. For that reason, Atlanta has developed into a major transportation hub. The Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is the busiest airport in the world and has been since 1998.
Atlanta also has a proud history, beginning as a small railroad town in 1837. When the Civil War decimated most of the southern United States, Atlanta grew into a regional economic powerhouse. Atlanta was also an epicenter of the American Civil Rights Movement of the 1960’s. Atlanta continued to progress as a city and the world took notice when the city hosted the 1996 Olympics.
You’ll notice a few very familiar companies and brands when you move to Atlanta. The city is also the proud home of the international beverage corporation, Coca-Cola. The soft drink giant developed its original recipe in the city in 1886. The sugary soda is proudly served at Atlanta area sporting events, including the likes of the Atlanta Braves (MLB), Atlanta Hawks (NBA), Atlanta Falcons (NFL) and Atlanta United FC (MLS).
