Peg Wilken Featured in AMSA’s Direction Magazine

  • February 01, 2016

Stevens’ own Peg Wilken was recently featured in the magazine Direction, a publication produced by the American Moving and Storage Association. The article focused on how women are thriving in the relocation industry, which has historically been dominated by men.

Peg’s 34-year journey in the relocation industry began at Stevens Worldwide Van Lines as a clerical assistant, and continues today as the Vice President of Government Traffic and Claims.

Peg finds great joy in going to work every day and credits Stevens for giving her the opportunity to not only find her niche, but to explore it and benefit from it.

“The owners [of Stevens] saw something in me and let me dabble and poke my nose in stuff,” Wilken said. “I found the work fascinating yet challenging. By the mid-1990s, I was named vice president of the company.” Reflecting more on her career, she recalls attending military relocation meetings as a representative of Stevens where the men outnumbered the women 200 to four.

“But that never scared me off,” she said. “Instead I thought I could be a trailblazer in the industry, so I claimed my seat at the table.”

Today, gender equality has opened the door for more women to succeed in the relocation industry, “soon you’ll see women in every role [in the relocation industry], because that’s how the world is moving,” said Wilken.
