Ask most people what the number one supply needed when moving is and they’ll almost always say “boxes!”
While boxes are important, they’re only a fraction of the actual supplies needed. Here’s a look at some of the packing supplies you’ll need to prepare properly for moving day.
1. Packing Paper
This blank paper is a real life saver when you need to wrap up glasses, plates and other fragile items. Use it liberally to ensure that your delicate possessions have a safe trip to your new destination.
You can also use it to fill in empty spaces in boxes to stop your items from moving around while in transit.
2. Bubble Wrap
Okay, we’ll admit that we’re pretty addicted to popping this in our spare time. However, it can be used for other purposes (gasp)!
Before you move, this packing supply is crucial for fragile items. Wrap it around anything for an added layer of protection. Once your possessions are safely in your new home, pop those bubbles to your heart’s content!
3. Stretch Wrap
If you have large items that you’d like to protect from the elements, stretch wrap is the product for you! This is essentially kitchen stretch wrap on steroids.
When wrapped around your items tightly, it will keep dirt, grime, dust and water off of them wonderfully.
As an added bonus, because it’s flexible it’s great for bundling odd-shaped items together.
4. Packing Labels
With a labeling system in place while you’re packing, the unloading and unpacking process becomes exponentially easier.
Make sure to use a label or two on every box, not just so you know the contents but their place in your new home as well.
Often left out, yet never overrated. Think of yourself as the head coach of your own move; you won’t be caught without a clipboard again.
Use the clipboard to keep all of your important paperwork and checklists together and in one place.
Moving with a professional mover, such as Stevens, allows you the flexibility to pack your own goods or to have the professionals pack them for you. If you would rather leave the packing, would be more than happy to take care of that for you too! For more tips on packing up your possessions yourself, be sure to check out our Packing Guide
