In support of Special Olympics, Stevens Worldwide Van Lines will participate in the World’s Largest Truck Convoy on Saturday, Sept. 18 in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Stevens’ Professional Van Operator James VanHaaren III will join truck drivers from all across the state in the Special Olympics fundraiser and awareness campaign. The trucks will convoy throughout the Grand Rapids area.
Similar convoys will take place in 11 other states that day. Three other convoys took place earlier this month, and seven more are scheduled in coming weeks.
This is the 10th year for the convoy, which raises funds for Special Olympics through sponsorships and entry fees.
Eunice Kennedy Shriver started the Special Olympics movement in summer 1962 when she organized a day camp, in the backyard of her Maryland home, for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. In a few short years, Special Olympics grew large enough to have an international summer games.
Ms. Shriver died in August 2009. At that time, the organization she started attracted nearly 3 million in 180 countries.
