As the nation gets ready to celebrate Memorial Day 2010, Stevens Worldwide Van Lines encourages Americans to take a break from the “super sales” and backyard picnics to remember the true meaning of this holiday – honoring those who gave their lives in service to our country.
At Stevens, we pay tribute to all of those in the armed forces and their families – those who made the ultimate sacrifice, those who currently defend our freedom and those who have served in the past.
Stevens has the privilege of moving many military service members and their families. We have more than 60 years of experience providing moving and storage services to military personnel. Over the years, we have had the opportunity to serve hundreds of thousands of members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard.
While many in our country have forgotten the true meaning of this holiday, and some think that it is meant for remembering all dead, there are a few visible exceptions.
Today – as they have done on every Thursday before Memorial Day since 1948 -- soldiers from the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment will place small American flags at each of the more than 250,000 gravesites at Arlington National Cemetery. Service members of the U.S. Marine Corps Ceremonial and Guard Company, U.S. Navy Ceremonial Guard, U.S. Air Force Honor Guard and the U.S. Coast Guard Ceremonial Honor Guard will assist. Flags will also be placed at the Tomb of the Unknowns by the Tomb Sentinels.
